Dance to the Rhythm

Imagine that you’re in the middle of a dance floor, stage, or even just in your room and there is music playing. The music goes through one ear through your body and exits through movement. You’re expressing yourself through salsa, hip-hop, or even ballet, the options are endless. Dancing causes you to lift any negativity out of your body and boost your mood because of it. Regardless of what kind of dance you like to practice, there is always a rhythm to move to.

Dance and the Mind

Usually, when people are struggling with their mental health they feel as if they cannot express their emotions. This exercise allows individuals to be able to feel comfortable within themselves. This can help people release any negativity such as stress or anxiety. Dancing helps with mental illness by:

  • Helping express emotions
  • Relieving stress
  • Decreasing anxiety
  • Lower chance of depression
  • Increase in mood

Dance is also seen as a special form of therapy. Since dancing encompasses expressing emotion many therapists believe that this practice encourages patients to feel more comfortable with themselves. This allows people to have a boosted mood with then results in a lower risk of mental health diseases.

Dance and the Body

Dancing is a physical exercise, so of course, it focuses on the human body and provides many benefits. Dancing not only helps increase weight loss but can improve posture. Different techniques in dance focus on having great posture, which then encourages the individual to always move around with that same posture day-to-day since they practice it in dance. This practice has many more physical benefits to it as well:

  • Increased weight loss
  • Better posture
  • Toning muscles
  • Maintaining strong bones
  • Improved balance

Dancers are constantly on their feet and applying pressure to every part of their bodies. In order to prevent injuries, dancers must focus on keeping their muscles toned and strong. When dancing it is important to stay in great health because if not it could result in injury or even an issue with the bones. Practicing dance in the proper way protects the human body’s bones from breakage.
